I wasn't too happy with their anti-hospital attitude either. That being said, however, I did learn a lot from the documentary and I don't regret watching it. I want to be informed about all sides of an issue and that was a good way to find things out. I just feel like they took things too far. Doctors and Nurses are not evil money-hungry beings who just want to slice the baby out of you so they can open up operating tables faster in order to get more patients through the door in a day. I mean, sure, there are probably a few of those out there...but so far in my experience, doctors and nurses have been there as an advocate for the mother and baby and desire to keep everyone safe and healthy. And I think you're absolutely right...mothers need to have a good birthing experience. If that means going natural then that is terrific. If that means getting an epidural then that's great, too. But let's try to get as much out of it as we possibly can! Especially when we're planning on doing it more than once. =)Alicia Hawkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07218334833357824914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402304058612048274.post-75216198161020024832011-07-20T17:18:57.102-07:002011-07-20T17:18:57.102-07:00You hardly know me, but I saw you post about your ...You hardly know me, but I saw you post about your blog, and I love blogs, so I read it! I like this post. I'm not expecting yet, but thinking very seriously about it, and have been trying to mentally prepare myself already. I watched a couple of super-hippy documentaries on Netflix when I was bored (the business of being born and born in america? or something) and I think the people that say absolutely only natural are kind of full of themselves! I do want to try going natural on the first one, to see if I can do it, but I will cave if it will help improve my experience. Good for you for making a very thought out decision on this. I think it's all about the experience. I mean, if you are so set on a natural birth that you tear yourself up in labor and have a horrible time, how will you ever be able to do it again?! Good for you, and your blog is super cute :) Good luck with everything! Sorry for being a blog stalker :)
-Ashlynashlyn.little.nusshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00468789183779793973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402304058612048274.post-49813793468321459472011-07-20T14:48:40.185-07:002011-07-20T14:48:40.185-07:00I second the walking epidural. I didn't have a walking one, but I did have a great one hour nap off of one with Ellie.

It is so refreshing to see someone who actually knows the side effects of an epidural. So few women are making INFORMED decisions anymore. They get defensive if you offer them information about their birthing choices.

Statistically you are right about epidurals leading to c-sections. It doubles your hances. It reduces the pain reliving hormones to the baby and the bonding hormones to the mom, and on and on like you said.

It is so refreshing to see a new mom empowered enough to make a conscious decision like this. I wanted a natural birth with Ellie, but I didn't have one and I don't feel a bit bad about it. It felt right when it happened.

What I wish I had known for my first birth was pain free natural birthing. Fear creates adrenaline which acts against the oxytocin, slowing the birth and causing pain. With Gabe there was no pain. It was intense, but there wasn't any pain.Annettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12512671419648654188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402304058612048274.post-78620417119791939822011-07-20T13:33:22.149-07:002011-07-20T13:33:22.149-07:00Just a thought: You may want to see about the opt...Just a thought: You may want to see about the option for what's called a "Walking Epidural". You get the benefits of the pain medication with a little bit of freedom. Just sharing ;-)Candacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05871206205988644004noreply@blogger.com
